Kelsey Moore

This month, I am honored to feature Kelsey Moore, a Santa Barbara hairstylist, entrepreneur, and mother whose story reflects the quiet strength of building a life with intention.

I first met Kelsey through my husband, who tattooed her over the years. As we became more acquainted, I was looking for a salon space to continue growing my own business, and I spent the next couple of years working from her private studio. It was during that season that I came to know the woman behind the chair.

Even after I moved into a different season of my career, our paths continued to cross, and we would catch up from time to time. Our conversations often centered around family, business, motherhood, personal growth, and the beauty industry. They have always been encouraging, honest, and filled with the kind of warmth that stays with you. More recently, Kelsey has become part of my own healthy hair journey, helping me care for my hair with intention while generously sharing her knowledge along the way.

What has always stood out to me is Kelsey’s quiet determination. I have watched her pursue her dream, build a thriving business, and embrace motherhood with grace, resilience, and intention. She reminds me that success is not always loud. Sometimes it is found in showing up each day, caring deeply for the people around you, and continuing to believe in the life you are creating.

In this month’s feature of Women of the Blooming Path, Kelsey reflects on motherhood, entrepreneurship, self-trust, and what it means to bloom through every season of becoming.

1. Becoming a mother for the first time changes so much. What part of yourself surprised you the most after entering motherhood?

The part that surprised me most was how deeply I could love another human being. I’m living in a completely different world than I was before becoming a mom. People tell you that motherhood changes everything, but you don’t fully understand it until you experience it yourself.

I also discovered a strength I didn’t know I had. Motherhood has pushed me beyond my comfort zone in every way—emotionally, physically, and mentally. It’s shown me that I can handle hard things while still leading with love.

2. You’ve built a successful business while raising two young children. What has motherhood taught you about ambition, success, and balance?

Motherhood completely changed my definition of success. Before children, success looked like growth, goals, and building my business. Now, success includes being present for my family and creating a life that feels meaningful, not just productive.

I’ve learned that balance isn’t something you achieve perfectly every day—it’s something you continually adjust. Some seasons require more from work, and others require more from family. Giving myself permission to be human has been one of the greatest lessons motherhood has taught me.

3. Many women feel pressure to do everything perfectly. What have you learned about giving yourself grace, and what does blooming look like for you in this season of life?

Learning to give myself grace—and to surrender when needed—has been one of the hardest lessons. I’ve always had high expectations for myself, but motherhood has taught me that perfection isn’t the goal; presence is.

Blooming in this season looks less like having everything figured out and more like trusting that growth can happen even when life feels messy. It’s learning to celebrate progress, honor my needs, and embrace the woman I’m becoming rather than constantly chasing who I think I should be.

4. You moved to Santa Barbara with a dream, built a business from the ground up, and created a life for yourself and your family here. What gave you the courage to take that leap, and what has that journey taught you about resilience, growth, and trusting yourself?

I’ve always believed that if I wanted something different, I had to be willing to take a risk. Moving to Santa Barbara and building a business from the ground up wasn’t easy, but I trusted that hard work, consistency, and faith in myself would eventually create opportunities.

Along the way, I’ve faced setbacks, uncertainty, and moments when I questioned myself. What I’ve learned is that resilience isn’t about never struggling—it’s about continuing to move forward despite the struggle. Every challenge has strengthened my confidence and reminded me that I’m capable of more than I think. One thing I know for sure is that I never lose when I bet on myself.

5. As a professional hairstylist, your work helps people feel confident, seen, and beautiful. What do you hope blooms within the women who sit in your chair?

I hope they leave feeling more like themselves.

Hair is important, but what I really love is creating a space where women feel seen, heard, and cared for. Since becoming a mother, I’ve come to see hair as so much more than beauty—it’s often a form of self-care, confidence, and restoration. I’m grateful to bring that energy into my work with every client who sits in my chair.

Many women spend so much time caring for everyone else that they rarely pause to care for themselves. If someone leaves my chair feeling more confident, more empowered, or simply reminded of their own beauty and worth, then I’ve done my job.
